As author of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson is probably the most recognized symbol of political and spiritual freedom in this country's history. He captured the hopes of a new nation in words that will never be forgotten

On the same day, July 4th, 1826, exactly 50 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence the last two of our nation's founding fathers died with these final words. Thomas Jefferson: "Is this the 4th?" John Adams:"Thomas Jefferson survives".
Over 140 years ago, a small settlement linked to Chicago by the Milwaukee and Elston roads, took the name Jefferson, after Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States. Jefferson Park is now very much a Chicago Neighborhood and one of its strongest communities.

Today, we have opportunity to demonstrate our unique sense of community pride and spirit-what it means to be part of Jefferson Park. We invite you to share with us the excitement and satisfaction of creating a permanent tribute to Jefferson Park's namesake - a tribute for all to see.
We are inviting every one of our Jefferson Park neighbors and friends to share in this effort and this celebration of community spirit. Our goal is to raise $75,000 to purchase and install this life-size bronze casting of Thomas Jefferson. Look for our "Nickels for Jefferson"collection displays in area stores and offices and consider making a larger contribution.
After all, this is your community. It is home for your family or your business, perhaps both. You will see your contribution come to life and remain a part of this community. Over the years thousands of others will see it too.

Your generous donation will give Jefferson Park a lasting and impressive monument to its namesake. The Thomas Jefferson Monument of Jefferson Park is destined to be a notable landmark now and for every generation to come. In our community and in the famous last words of John Adams....
"Thomas Jefferson Survives".
